The superfood site(1) explains why this fungus has such a high level of antioxidants. The high levels of antioxidants that boost the immune system, such as betulinic and glucans, are just the beginning. Beta glucans are not produced in the body, but they boost the immune system. You can find it in grains such as oats and wheat. It’s also found in certain mushrooms. This immune response protects against breast, stomach and colon cancers. Since 1955, it has been used as an anticancer medication in Russia.

The bark of trees also contains betulinic acid, an antiretroviral and anti-inflammatory agent. The National Cancer Institute has studied it as a cancer treatment. It inhibits melanoma. The adaptogens, or compounds that promote homeostasis within the body, are also powerful.

Chaga mushrooms can be consumed in many different ways. They are most commonly used as a tea extract or in powdered form. I enjoy drinking it as a tea so I purchase the powdered form on Amazon. The taste is similar to orange tea, with a hint of earthiness. It is mild enough to not need sweeteners, and my daughter loves it.
